Crisp leaves crunching underfoot, jeans, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice lattes. Oh yes, fall is here! Is there any time that is better?
Every season has something to celebrate. Spring is full of new life and the promise of what is to come. There are the long, hot days of summer that embrace simple things like ice cream and lighting bugs. Winter is a time of rest and celebration giving you daily opportunities to create hygee.
Then there is fall. Fall is that magical time that bridges the hot summer months to the long and frigid winters. It offers both refreshment and blusters you for what is to come. You find relief from the heat and enjoy lingering in a world that is slowly preparing to hibernate.
I’ve tried to pick a favourite season but I can’t. I enjoy something about each but there is something special about fall, especially October. To quote Beth and mine’s fellow INFP, the beloved Anne Shirley,
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
~Anne of Green Gables
Yes, Anne Girl, I am glad that I live in a world where there are Octobers too. Fall displays her finest glory as the leaves take on their vibrant colors. School has been back in session for a month or two, and life has moved back into its steady rhythm.
Now is the time to celebrate the gift of this time of year, let these 10 things to embrace this fall be your inspiration.
10 Things to Embrace this Fall
1. The Beautiful Leaves
What is better than listening to the sound of leaves crunching underfoot while you take a walk on a crisp fall afternoon. Bright red and orange leaves cover lawns but can be brought inside for simplistic decorations as well.
Take a few minutes to rake up a pile of leaves and jump in them with your kids (or by yourself) and remember simple childhood joys.
2. Pumpkin Everything
This the season for pumpkin everything! Add some pumpkin spice to that and it seriously makes the world a better place. Just ask all the people that were waiting for September 1st to roll around so that they could get their long-anticipated pumpkin spice lattes at a popular chain.
Pumpkin patches, pumpkin bread, carving pumpkins, pumpkin spice mochas (yes, it’s a thing), pumpkin chocolate chip-muffins, and of course the quintessential pumpkin pie. What’s not to love?

- 5-Minute Pumpkin Spice Mug Cake (Grain-free)
- Pumpkin Spice Cake with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting
- Paleo Pumpkin Spice Latte
3. Apple Everything
Don’t forget the noble apple, while pumpkin spice may seem to dominate the interweb, the apple is right up there with autumn essentials.
Everything from fresh apple cider made at a local mill to apple pie, to baked apples, and apple cider doughnuts are just waiting to be enjoyed.
Match up the pumpkin and apple together in with pumpkin pancakes drizzled with apple cider syrup, and it’s pretty much a slice of heaven.
Apple Recipes to Enjoy:
- Apple Crisp (so healthy that you could eat it for breakfast)
- Apple Cinnamon Muffins
4. Cozy Clothes
Jeans, flannel shirts, sweaters, and fuzzy socks were all made for fall comfort. After a sticky, hot summer, cozy clothes are just what is needed to nestle into the cooler months.
5. Hearty Soups and Stews
There is nothing better on a crisp fall evening than a bowl of a hearty soup or stew with a slice of crusty bread spread with butter.

6. A “Fall” Movie
Cozy nights spent snuggling on the couch with a “fall” movie and a bowl of popcorn is a perfect way to end a day or welcome the weekend.
Fall Movies to Enjoy:
- Anne of Green Gables 1 & 2 (Don’t even go there with the unmentionable 3rd movie)
- You’ve Got Mail (Bouquets of newly sharpened pencils anyone?)
7. U-Pick Farms
U-pick farms are the best in the fall! I always have image of Anne picking apples when Gilbert comes strolling down the lane right before he proposes.
Check out what local U- pick farms are in your area. Depending on where you live it might be an apple orchard, a pumpkin patch, or even a farm with pomegranates or persimmons.
8. Fall(ish) Essential Oil Blends
Essential oils are a natural option to add fall aroma to your home. Mix and match to create your own blend or get inspiration from some of these ideas.
*Be sure to find out if the oils you choose to use are considered safe to defuse around your young children and pets. Using Essential Oils Safely is a wonderful, unbiased site to help you decide.

9. Candles
Candles bring a sense of calm and warmth to a room. Light a few at the dinner table or while you settle in with the kids in the evening to read a book. Look for bee’s or soy wax candles which are a safe, non-toxic option. Some companies have a more natural fragrance or essential oil blends that will fill the house with fall time scents.
10. Corn Maze
Have you ever spent an afternoon in a corn maze? That was the thing to do when I was in junior high for youth group events. Pack up the family or some friends and head to a maze and see how long it takes you to get out!
Take a picnic lunch and make a day of it, often corn mazes are located by u-pick farms and pumpkin patches.
Do one of these things (or do them all!) and be sure to enjoy the awesomeness that fall offers!
