I stopped treating my adrenal fatigue. Sound crazy? I know. I’ve written a fair bit about my adrenal fatigue, and the various methods I’m using to support my healing, like my Happy Adrenal Smoothie recipe.
So why on earth would I stop treating my adrenal fatigue when I know full well that it’s a serious health concern that has plagued me for several years?
Here’s the thing: I have been digging deeper and deeper into the root cause of my frustrating health issues: fatigue, unexplained weight gain, hormonal imbalances, more and more food intolerances, bloating and constipation, brain fog, weak immune system, anxiety and low moods, candida overgrowth, unexplained skin rashes…
And I discovered recently that while these things are certainly all linked to adrenal fatigue, there’s actually a deeper root cause behind it.
Gut health.
“Oh great” I thought. “I’m feeling totally overwhelmed as it is. Now I have to figure out a plan for healing my gut? That’s a HUGE topic with multiple considerations and angles, and I’m no expert.” (Cue panic and despair. And a little denial.)
So what is gut health, exactly? Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician born in 460BC, famously said that “all disease begins in the gut”. It’s absolutely incredibly to me that he knew something so foundational and so true – so many years ago – that modern science is just now starting to talk about.
Many of you may have heard the term “leaky gut” being used in the natural health world. Leaky gut: where the intestinal lining is permeable and leaks small particles into the rest of the body, causing widespread low-grade inflammation and all sorts of health issues… like the ones I mentioned above.
It turns out that adrenal fatigue is actually a symptom of poor gut health, not a root cause itself. There are so many layers when it comes to our health. Most people only ever look at the top layer, which usually ends with a prescription drug that masks the symptom so that the person can happily ignore it. Sometimes we peel back the layers, as I did by learning about adrenal fatigue. And sometimes, there are even more layers to peel away, all the way down to the gut.
I’ve known about gut health for years – we even did the GAPS diet for four months, years ago. We’ve taken probiotics, and we drink bone broth. We try to avoid things that are hard on the gut (antibiotics, intolerant foods, sugar, etc.)
But never before have I had a systematic, well-researched plan for how to cleanse my gut, then heal and seal it.
Until now.
Recently I’ve been working my way through a resource called the Heal Your Gut Summit. (But don’t buy it through that link – there’s a killer sale on right now. See below!)
It’s hosted by Dr. Josh Axe, Donna Gates, and Dr. Eric Zielinski, and it has an incredible wealth of information. It covers every single one of the topics I want to dive into deeper, like:
- The #1 cause of gas, bloating, indigestion, weight gain
- Secrets to overcome candida and yeast
- Public health perspective on gut health and essential oils
- How to overcome autoimmune disease
- Thyroid dysfunction
- Pediatric gut health: why it matters
- Detoxing the colon and liver
- Reversing seasonal allergies
- Healing anxiety through the gut
- Weight loss through gut healing
- What you need to know about depression and the gut
- Overcoming pyroluria and social anxiety
If you’re like me – fed up with being sick and tired all the time – then this is the resource you’ve been waiting for.
There are 35 videos to watch (and each have audio versions plus transcripts, for those who prefer to listen or read the info) and each video is 40+ minutes long. I’ve been absolutely blown away by the wealth of knowledge being shared!
I kinda feel like I’ve hit the jackpot here – this amount of information would be (and has been!) totally overwhelming to research on my own, but in this summit it’s broken down into relevant topics and presented visually by experts in an easily-understandable way.
I am simply working my way through the talks systematically, taking copious amounts of notes, and feeling more and more empowered as I go.
And, in addition to the 35 video presentations, there are a whole bunch of bonus products to go along with it. I would have probably paid full price for the summit on its own because it’s that good, but these bonuses just took it way over the top with awesomeness.
One of the many summit bonuses is the Lacto-Fermentation eBook and video package ($67 value) by my good friend, Wardeh from Traditional Cooking School. She is so, SO wise and experienced. I can’t wait to go through her materials to expand my lacto-fermentation skills (all of those good little probiotics! So important to gut health!)
Another bonus is Dr. Datis Kharrazian’s Five Things They Never Told You About Depression ($14.99 value). I can’t wait to finish reading that one! (I coudn’t resist downloading it right away and reading the first few pages. Eye-opening and so good.)
That one caught my eye because I currently have his book checked out from the library, Why Isn’t My Brain Working? A Revolutionary Understanding of Brain Decline and Effective Strategies to Recover Your Brain’s Health, and I’m just devouring it. It’s fascinating, illuminating, and practical – I had so many blog post ideas bubbling over after reading just the first chapter.
As I’m refining my gut health game plan, and as I go through the process of resolving my health issues once and for all, I’m feeling so encouraged. I feel more empowered than ever before, and I’m finally on track to vibrant health again. (I’ll write more soon about the specifics of what I’m doing – it’s so exciting!)
The Heal Your Gut Summit has been a major part of this empowerment, and I so highly recommend it for everyone. Not all of us are dealing with the exact same health concerns, but like Hippocrates said – all disease begins in the gut. This stuff is valuable information that everyone deserves to have – whether for treatment or prevention.
Gut health is so, so important, you guys!

I totally missed out on the extremely low bundle price, but if all ofvitvis as good as you say it is (and I am sure it is), even paying full price for it will still be worth it. I too suffer from adrenal fatigue “Addison’s Secondary”, my pituitary is a mess also, and I look forward to reading all of this information. I currently take Hydrocortisone and probiotics. I take a good probiotic though. Its Schiffs brand and has 50 million. I didn’t know there was something else out there. I was a doctors sheep, lol

If you’re on my email list, you might just hear about a one-time flash sale in a few months – for this bundle. Keep an eye out for that! 😉

I am on a very similar path to you, also convinced that healing the gut is the key to health. I just saw this post now, so I’m too late to buy the bundle, but that summit sounds great! Wish I could still get it at the bundle price! I have been listening to quite a few similar summits and reading a lot of article written by some of the presenters at the summits and although I agree that healing the gut is imperative and one probably can’t heal adrenal fatigue fully without healing the gut, I think it’s a good idea to do things in parallel and not drop those practices that heal the adrenals as well. I think working on them in parallel may even be synergistic…i.e by healing your adrenals, you also put your body in a state where it can heal itself better. I.e heal the gut. Not a doctor, but just my two cents from my own research and my own healing journey.
Beth
That’s a great point, Liz. There’s probably some benefit to continuing with many of the adrenal support protocols alongside the gut healing stuff.
(And, just between you and me 😉 watch out for a one-time-only flash sale of this bundle in a few months. Are you signed up for my email list? I’ll be sharing it with my subscribers as soon as the time comes! 🙂

So sorry to butt in on your convo here, but my understanding of adrenal fatigue, or addison’s disease, which I also have, is that that adrenal glands are dead, never to be healed, never to function again. I am wrong? This was the impression I got from my endocrinologist
Beth
Hi Trish,
I’ve never heard that before, either from a naturally-minded source, or from a conventional-med source. Here’s a good article that goes into a lot of detail on adrenal insufficiency: https://draxe.com/adrenal-insufficiency/ (If you google “heal addison’s disease naturally” there’s a ton of great info out there. Hope that’s helpful!

Oh my goodness. I’m glad to hear about this resource, but your post also is very discouraging to me. I have heard from others and researched myself and found that gut health is likely the root cause of many chronic health problems for me as well. I had always thought that the GAPS diet, probiotics, and the things you mentioned could help. I am very overwhelmed and discouraged thinking that those things did not help you and that there is apparently so much more required than that 🙁 This literally just makes me want to give up. Those things are hard enough to grasp as it is.
Beth
No! Don’t be discouraged! 🙂 The GAPS Diet actually helped us a ton. We just didn’t stick with it long enough. Also, that was 5+ years ago. Healing your gut isn’t actually that hard… it’s just the knowing *what* to do! That’s why I have been SO encouraged by the info in the Heal Your Gut summit. It’s laid out in a way that makes sense, and feels manageable. It’s very empowering to finally get a grasp on all of that. Did you buy the bundle? If so, go to the Heal Your Gut summit right now, and watch the first talk. It’s a great foundation! xoxo!

This is such an awesome post! I can’t wait to dig into this summit!
Beth
Thanks Jill! The summit is so awesome, and so is the rest of the bundle! 🙂

Have you been checked for Hashimoto’s disease? I have it and had everyone of your symptoms.

Hey Andrea! I haven’t been checked for Hashimoto’s specifically, but my functional med. doctor did take a look at bloodwork from a little while ago, and while my thyroid was low-ish, it wasn’t Hashi-level low. Hashimoto’s is also something that would be addressed by healing the gut, so either way – I think I’m on the right path. 🙂

I agree gut health is important but first you need to clean before you can repair. Have you colon cleanse or parasite cleanse? Do you take any liver tonics to support the organ filtering toxins?
tanya
I bought the bundle bc I can relate to this post, but where did you find the info on healing from candida? Thanks in advance!
Beth
Hi Tanya!
One of the (many!) items in the Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle is the Heal Your Gut Summit. Look for it on your list of downloads after you log in. In the Heal Your Gut Summit, there is a 40+ minute expert interview on the topic of candida. There are also half a dozen or so other titles in the bundle that talk about candida (I’m not sure how extensively, but it’s definitely a topic in the book), such as “A Mother’s Guide to Probiotics”, “Healing Patiently”, “Heal Your Microbiome, Optimize Your Health,” and “Secrets to a Healthy Metabolism”. I hope that’s helpful! 🙂
