And we are in the thick of birthday month here at Chez Ricci. We started with Canaan turning one on June 20, then my thirtieth was last week on the 5th, today (Friday) is Aliza’s third. My Dad’s was yesterday, and hubby’s is on the 27th! Whew! It’s a whole lotta cake and ice cream. When you read this tomorrow, I’ll be in the throes of a fancy high tea birthday party  – a joint celebration for Aliza and myself. Girls only, fancy dress code in effect!

Here are my fave instagrams from the week:

Me on my thirtieth. What a fantastic day. We went to Legoland as a family, and I honestly had the best time, just loving being with my people, watching my kids’ delight, remembering how fun my youth was… now that it’s over, ha!

An image I grabbed from the table after our meal at the steakhouse Saturday night, with Chris’s parents. It was *such* a treat for me to be at my fave restaurant and go “all out”. I didn’t have to cook it, I didn’t have to pay for it, and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed every last second of it. After a couple of amazing appetizers (mushrooms neptune and a cheesy southwest dip of some sort) I had steak and lobster with a twice-baked potato, veggies dripping in butter, and a glass of champagne (which was amazing!). I was *thisclose* to getting creme brulee for dessert (my fave) but they brought me a free piece of chocolate cake with a candle in it, which was perfect because I was craving chocolate anyway! It was amazing.

Me and my girl at my parents’ house, both of us having Important Birthdays, just a week apart from one another. She is tucked in tight to my heart, nice and cozy. My writerly brain goes all to mush when trying to express how much I love her. I don’t think they make words big enough for that. (A side note: my younger self would have balked at the thought of putting my make-up-less face on the interwebs. Meh, I’m over it.)

The birthday cake that my mom made for me. (Amazing icing recipe HERE). That little clown dude on top? That’s a family tradition/joke. He showed up maybe a decade or so ago, and none of us have any idea where he came from, but now he graces every single birthday cake for family celebrations. Our tradition is that after blowing out the candles, the birthday person takes the candles out of the cake (and licks them of course), takes out the little man, and licks the little man’s butt. The icing, I mean. We lick the icing out of the little clown dude’s butt crack, laugh together, snap a pic, and then eat cake. What? That’s normal, right? No? Huh.

What are your plans this fine summer weekend?

Can I confess something? I love writing these Weekend Links posts because I feel like I can just chat with my friends and share a more personal side of me… but there are hardly ever any comments. I’m wondering if you enjoy these posts as much as I do! Wanna let me know? I aim to please. Kinda. :)

What do you say we try something new…

Share a fave link from your own blog in the comments (or just another link that you really enjoyed this week)!

Great links, I really liked the book list one. We’ve read quite a few of them and I’m looking forward to seeing if our library has some of the others.
