Hola! I am sitting here on a Sunday with unbrushed teeth and hair, still in the long johns I wore to bed. We skipped church today like the bad church-raised kids that we are, and we are enjoying ‘church at home’, as the kids called it. I asked ’em what that meant and they said that we should sit in chairs and eat snacks. “And maybe sing about Jesus?” I asked. “YEAH!” they replied. And so we did.
We loved and danced in our jammies while making pancakes, grooving out to this and that. And we scrubbed the stovetop, swishy swashy, with warm sudsy water just like Jesus washed my sins away, and it was all holy as we breathed the mundane life in and out and found God right there alongside it.
Honey stripped the bedsheets and started the washer. I began a candlelit vigil for my kitchen counters and began the rhythmic task of uncovering them from the dirty dishes. We watched the snow fall. We had chocolate ice cream cones after breakfast while hubs read a chapter (or four) out of James and the Giant Peach and the oldest boy sat enraptured, fully present alongside the spider and earthworm and boy, on a giant peach bobbing along on the ocean.
Now the littlest is napping and I’m hitting publish so that I can run downstairs and play jungle bingo with my loves while sipping tea. I hope your weekend is full of sabbath rest, in whatever form it may be today.
