About

Summer 2012 @ Lake Louise, Banff, Canada

Welcome!

I’m Beth, the creator of Red & Honey.

R&H is a lifestyle blog for the naturally-minded homemaker.

This space exists as a billboard for crunchy mamas who want to be their best mama-self and just need a little encouragement and instruction.

We are for the mainstreamers who wanna get a little crunchier, and for the crunchiest among us seeking balance.

We value health, but not as much as relationships. We value the earth, because of each beautiful person living on it. We wax poetic about motherhood and the ministry of dirty dishes.

I recently began a passionate love affair with coffee and my life will never be the same.

Other things I fervently love include the sweet name of Jesus, painting my toenails red, good sushi, anything turquoise, the way words dance and play together on my screen, and all things crunchy and natural. It has also been stated that I have a serious weakness for cake. On this I shall plead the fifth.

These are my people:

He comes home every night in a pilot uniform… lucky me :)

Chris is my husband. He’s a pilot which means he comes home in a uniform every night (oh, yes he does). It sounds all fancy-pants and Big Paycheque and all of that, but really it’s so not. He’s a relatively new flight instructor (read: bottom of the aviation totem pole) which means we make around minimum wage for our family of five. God has provided for us in big ways over the last couple of years, and we are learning fabulous lessons on frugality and careful stewardship. My man is an incredible pilot and an even better husband and daddy.

September 2012

Isaac is our oldest child, born in 2008. He is four years old and full of Big Personality. He’s a train-lover, a Daddy-look-alike, and a tender-hearted soul in a bouncing and energetic body that will steal your heart when you’re not looking.

Aliza is our second-born (2010), and our only daughter. She is So Very Two, and she loves pink with all of her heart and soul. We try not to feed the gender stereotypes, but when your daughter makes up a complete song called “Pink is My Fave-Wit Col-Ah” at the age of two, you just roll with it.

October 2012

Canaan is the baby of the family until further notice, and he is a deliciously chubby and soft-skinned giggle-monster. He was born in June 2012 and has been belly-laughing at the drop of a hat practically since birth. He is a fan of drool, cuddles, and his big siblings as long as they aren’t poking, yanking, or rolling over on him.

We make our home wherever we’re together, which, lately has been a different place every time I turn around. We are looking forward to settling into a slightly more permanent home in  the spring of 2013, but until then we make do with temporary chaos and try to enjoy the lessons in trust and contentment that are more abundant than tween girls at a Justin Bieber concert.

Update: Hurray! We found an absolutely AMAZING house to rent and moved in March 2013. We are loving it, despite being in a neighbourhood we can’t afford and feeling a little out of place (we rent the top half of a pretty sweet house).

December 2012

Grab a glass of kombucha or kefir (or go totally wild and have a coffee…), and hang out for a while.

Beth is the creator and editor here at Red & Honey, a lifestyle blog for the naturally-minded homemaker. She recently began a passionate love affair with coffee and her life will never be the same. She has had three babies in less than four years, is a professional laundry-avoider, and loves to stay up way too late making weird stuff from scratch that normal people tend to just buy in a store. Hence, the coffee.
