The Noise of Living

I can barely hear it sometimes. The noise of living drowns it out and I forget.

I have a voice.

The little people that surround me with their lively exuberance and clanging of pots and chattering of distractions take me from it, but my voice sings and hopes and beats with a heart-cry for the genuine. The real, gritty, and true.

I can see it; it is found here. In the midst of dirty dishes, dirty diapers, dirty most-things-in-my-house… it is here. My voice and my heart and my soul.

I now know.

I have a voice.

Your words remind me to be “true to myself and to the Lord” as my mom always reminded me. And in that to OWN my voice…wherever I am…whatever I do!

    Your words…simple and breathtaking….what a perfect combo!

Wow, thank-you so very much – that is high praise for a writer, and I really appreciate you taking a minute to comment and share that. Being true to myself and the Lord – can’t really hope for much more, eh?

  3. Beautiful post~ loved hearing it read by your beautiful voice at Allume, along with your beautiful baby!!

  4. I just popped over here from Lisa Jo’s site and browsed for a few minutes…and had to say something. First, your words on ‘voice’ I can totally identify with and what you said was beautiful.

Second, we also just made a cross country move from Alberta. We just moved a little further East. It’s not often that I find fellow Canadians in this space and I’m so glad to find you.

Third, I have red hair too. Made redder with the help of some color this summer but underneath that and at heart, I’m a redhead. ;-)

Hoping your settling in has/is going smoothly and that you’re all finding your groove again….

  5. And your voice is lovely! I’m so glad you met Lisa Jo!! If you see her again PLEASE give her a HUGE hug from me! Enjoy yourself!

I so agree. You are speaking from my heart, too! Feeling drowned out by the noises of motherhood, even the silence of this day-in-day-out mothering. I hear your voice, sister! Loud and clear!

Beth, I love your post! Listening to this live, at Allume, made me cry. I had just heard the voices of my 6 little ones on the phone… all the noise, and we have a voice. Thank you!
